There isn’t much to discuss in the show notes for this Podcast Extra. The show is all about overclocking the story behind our quest to get the best gaming performance only to find it completely inadequate when it comes to competitive benchmarking.
For instance, when overclocking the Intel Core i9 10900K the base clock is around 3.7Ghz and is the point where Intel cuts all the specs. Thing is this processor will boost up to 5.3Ghz giving you a 1600Mhz overclock when matched with a good cooler. What people fail to realize is that only two cores will boost to that frequency with the other cores hanging around 5.1Ghz and lower depending on the thermal performance. If you can keep the processor cool you can get better performance and if you are really lucky you can get all of the cores to boost to 5.3Ghz. However, at the first sign of a thermal problem they will throttle back and kill your scores.
It would seem that even with a Single Stage Phase chiller the most you can get 200Mhz more and even that isn’t enough to take down some of the top scores on HWBOT. Sadly, Golden samples and perfect bin processors rule the top spots making it virtually impossible to remain competitive without similar dedication and financial backing. That is the nature of competitive overclocking and the burden we all bear.
