Most hardware enthusiasts will agree that their personal build is also their crowning achievement. It is the system they have poured hours of dedication into and want to ensure they will get everything out. While the same can be said for overclockers, the methodology has been slightly tweaked and is something you see across the enthusiast community where you have the item that brings you joy but is not practical to use on a daily basis and the item you use on a daily basis because it can be relied on.
For Overclockers you will often find the latest and greatest hardware on the bench and may only be in use for a couple weeks. During that time, you may reboot the system hundreds of times with many of those attempts being immediately followed up with a tweak of the settings and yet, another test. In these situations, it is difficult to find time to check your email or even play a casual or competitive game.
This is where the “daily driver” comes in and is that machine where you surf the web, watch movies, play games and, in the case of Hardware Asylum, write articles, modify images and do a fair amount of development work. There is nothing stopping anyone from making sure the daily driver from being a true hardware enthusiast computer and when that system works, it tends to stay in that configuration for a very long time.

In this episode the duo discusses the decision and thought process a computer hardware enthusiast goes though when picking parts of a new build and why the parts they currently have may not completely fit the bill.
