    Conclusion

In this review we looked at the X870 Aorus Elite X WiFi 7 Motherboard from Aorus Gaming (Gigabyte).  This board is built on the AMD X870 chipset supporting the new 9000 Series Granite Ridge and other AM5 line of processors.  For those of you who caught our/my review of the Aorus Z790 Elite X you will be familiar with many of the new motherboard features common across all Aorus Gaming products.  This includes memory Back Drilling to increase memory performance, Ultra Durable Slot X PCI express armor to physically reinforce the primary PCI Express slot from damage.

Additional hardware features include the EZ-Latch system for quickly and easily installing M.2 heatsinks with a spring loaded metal retention clip.  On top of that you will find heatpipe enabled VRM coolers and enhanced M.2 heatsinks all for better thermal control and lower operating temperatures.

Overall, the X870 Aorus Elite WiFi 7 does exactly what it should, and performance matched that of “other” X870 motherboards and the extensive list of upgrades ensures that you will get the most from this elite class of gaming motherboards.  However, what is missing is that little extra that really sets this motherboard apart from the competition and, it isn’t there.  An argue could be made that when performance matches a much higher end motherboard out of the box that we have a good product but, I would argue the opposite.  Yes, it does good but, I really expected more.

Overclocking on the AM5 platform is an acquired taste, I know that I’ll need to dig into the AMD Overclocking section of the BIOS to really tweak and tune but, it is literally buried and undocumented giving me the strong impression that AMD is scared to let users overclock their “unlocked” processors that enthusiasts pay extra money to buy.

All things aside, the board was rock solid, did what it advertised and is really does come with an amazing set of connectivity and design features.  It supports up to three PCI Express 5.0 M.2 drive locations and has just enough ARGB to allow you to "peacock" at the next LAN Party but not enough to throw up the lamer flag and scare away the ladies.
