SilverStone SST-RL07 Redline Series Case Review
Author: Darren McCainCase Layout and Features
The RL07 uses the same internal architecture as the PM02 we recently reviewed so our regulars can skip ahead! Despite the repeat design, something about the RL07 in white just oozes class.
The slightly tinted tempered glass window on the left side remains the most striking feature. This oversized window definitely begs for a clean installation and nicely accents the white colored interior finish. The front panel follows the growing trend of cases with no external drive bays and hides three optional fans. Front venting is provided through the sides of the panel. It breathes well and makes good use of the soft blue accent lighting from the center.
The back is pretty standard with exception of the silent 140mm exhaust fan. SilverStone’s inclusion of a 140mm fan is a nice plus and allows builders to save money on fans they most likely replace right out of the box. Support for 7 PCI slots and a power supply up to 190mm deep round out the back side.
Unlike the PM02, the Redline top is free of fan mounts and venting. This does limit factory cooling options and seems to be begging for some custom graphic design. The usual external ports, power and reset buttons are lined up across the front. The power button is nicely lit when the lights are down.
Two large “feet” along the length of the build provide a good inch of clearance for your power supply to breathe with a nice removable dust filter.
A closer look at that window reveals it’s a single piece of Tempered glass with the front hinge glued on at the bottom. A set of screws fastened at the top hold things firmly in place. I do love these windows! they look great and provide a fantastic window for a clean build or some good lighting.
A large SilverStone logo across the bottom cover provides a tasteful accent. Back lighting this logo would be a great touch for the next generation! The cover is not removable but does channel air from the lower front fan directly across the drive bays and the PSU. The rest of the interior is wide open thanks to the lack of 5.25” drive bays.
