    Multi GPU Index

A new feature we are adding to all of our motherboard reviews is what we call the Mulit GPU Index.  The Multi-GPU index is a portable set of data we can apply to determine the multi-gpu potential of any motherboard.  A higher index number indicates a favorable condition for multiple graphics cards while a lower number indicates a hindrance in one of our leading indicators.  Since the Index does not take into consideration system architecture it can be applied to motherboards regardless of processor or chipset generations.

We are actually rather disappointed in the PCI Express layout on the P67A-S.  The board is limited to only two 16x PCIe slots with the remainder of the space being filled with three 1x slots and two standard PCI.  The spacing gives us plenty of room to install 2 modern GPUs and still have space for additional expandability however given the audience and lack of included SLI Bridge you will most likely be limited to using that second video card slot for PhysX processing or any PCI Express device that requires more than one lane of bandwidth.  Keep in mind that Crossfire is still supported so all is not lost in the high end gaming spectrum.

For best single video card performance you'll want to leave the second slot empty since it borrows bandwidth from the primary.
