    Software

The software should be immediately familiar to Roccat fans with all significant features carried across the mouse platforms largely unchanged.  Installing the software on out Tyon immediately launched the firmware update bringing us to driver version 1.16 and firmware version 1.29.  Driver and Firmware versions are displayed at the top of the window with settings set across 6 tabs.  Individual game profiles can be setup along the bottom.

With the XTD ROCCAT has improved sensor engine from 6000 DPI to a fully adjustable 8200DPI Pro-Aim (R3) Sensor.  The sampling rate can set from an initial 200 dpi upward in 200 DPI increments.  Five presets can be configured for on the fly DPI adjustments via the mouse buttons.

The Button Assignment Tab is where all the customization occurs.  Thanks to the Easy-Shift[+] system each button can have two functions resulting in a total of 32 functions at any time.  Each of the buttons can be assigned manually or through the selection of common functions offered by the dropdown.  The ROCCAT Macro Manager is available to create macros manually or using one of the presets for the included game types.

Advanced Control provides access to all of the actual Mouse settings you would expect in a driver and then some.  Sensitivity can be adjusted by axis.  Distance and Tracking Control (TDCU) and can be adjusted individually. The polling rate is adjustable from the default 1000 Hz.  Sound feedback can be configured or turned off. Pointer speed and acceleration are available as well.

By default the ROCCAT driver is set to TCU and Distance Control Off.  This is an odd decision that is remedied by enabling the TCU and allowing the real-time calibration to run.  In just seconds the software configures the laser tracking for your mouse surface.  I found the mouse works on my major surfaces pretty well right out of the box but the added calibration should allow for individual mousing surfaces and preferences.

Things get really fun once you start playing with the Color Control tab.  The mouse wheel and the ground effects can be programmed by changing the behavior of the onboard LED lighting system.  The Tyon uses a precise control over these colors to expand the color pallet to a massive 16.8 million colors.  This same control allows you to adjust the light effect and the color flow effect.  Of course you can simply turn things off if you find the light distracting globally or by profile.

Love it or hate it the R.A.D. tab or ROCCAT Achievement Tab is back.  This tab tracks an array of statistics about your mouse usage and includes Trophy Achievements you can earn.  Soon you can earn your own “Sultan of Scroll” or one of many other hidden trophies just by playing your own favorite games.  I have to admit it is satisfying to hear the achievement unlocked voice while tying away on a presentation or blasting away in a game.

The Update/Support tab provides easy access to driver updates and support. Offering direct links to driver downloads and details on your current driver version.  Online support, email support and access to an online support request form are all present though an internet connection is clearly required to get much out of them.

Also featured on the Tyon is the ROCCAT Talk and Talk FX systems coupling ROCCAT mice and keyboards together and Easy-Shift[+] providing unparalleled flexibility by allowing the same keys to be reused at the touch of a button.
