    Case Layout and Features

This case features a total of eight expansion slots with meshed slot covers.  Despite the drive to deliver quiet computer case designs you will find subtle details like this that help to equalize air pressures and ensure that every component can get adequate airflow.

The back of the case exposes a number of features.  The power supply is installed from the back using the removeable panel and the expansion slots can be rotated 90 degrees for those wanting to experiment with vertical GPU placements.

At the front of the case, you will find status indicators for fan speed, power button, analog audio jacks and four USB ports along with a single USB Type-C connection.

Something you don’t normally see is what goes on behind the front panel.  As I was exploring the chassis the bezel over the front panel controls came loose showing the tasty bits below.  What surprised me are the springs over the LED lights, likely to ensure even lighting across the panel.

You will find several panels with sound absorption material.  The back panel features the largest installation of material while leaving the included vent exposed.

Sound absorption material does two things.

    • First, it changes the resonance of materials that tend to vibrate as this will reduce undesired noise.  It will not stop panels from vibrating but, is quite effective on computer cases with predictable sources of vibration.  (eg. fans)
    • Second, it will capture free air sounds and muffle them considerably.  Much like with vibration the material will not completely block the sound but is very effective when combined with the Silent Wings 140mm PWM fans included with the Dark Base Pro 901.

To be effective you will find sound material located wherever a panel is exposed to a cooling fan.  This includes a few plastic panels located at the top of the case and behind the front bezel.
