Crucial BX500 960GB SSD Drive Review
Author: Dennis GarciaIntroduction
One great thing about Solid State Drives (SSDs) is that the technology behind them has been progressively advancing since their inception. What was first a very small and expensive storage solution has quickly become a viable hard drive (rotational) replacement. Currently there are a number of different form factors from the fastest drives found on the M.2 NVMe interface to the economical 2.5” SATA drives designed as a traditional hard drive replacement in laptops, desktop PCs, servers and industrial machines.
In this review we’ll be looking at the Crucial BX500 960GB SSD. (CT960BX500SSD1). We have looked at this drive series before with the BX300 and are happy to see the latest upgrade. On the surface the new BX500 is very similar to the previous version. It doesn’t have the the security features found on the MX line and is really designed for down market applications. However, one major difference with this particular drive is the use of the new 96-Layer 3D NAND technology. The memory is essentially the same at the previous first generatoin 64-Layer 3D NAND with the added benefit higher density across the individual chips.
This lowers costs and allows the company to increase profits.
