Crucial Pro Series 6400MT/s Overclocking Memory Review
Author: Dennis GarciaIntroduction
When DDR5 was first released there were two schools of thought. For some memory makers the goal was to extract the most performance and build a product that was not only eye catching but also showed off what DDR5 could do when matched with an appropriate and correctly binned processor. The second school of thought is a little more depressing but made more sense in the real world. For these products the company would focus on products that drove mainstream sales. Not only could these products be cheaper but would rule the mainstream and OEM markets.
When the first Micron/Crucial DDR5 modules hit the market they, for the lack of a kinder word, sucked when it came to overclocking. However, despite this the crucial modules offered some amazing stable performance and were adopted by as number of other memory makers including Lexar.
Earlier this year Crucial launched the Pro Series overclocking memory as a way to offer a more flexible memory module that could offer a greater range of performance while also distancing them from the stable mainstream modules that Crucial is known for.
What has impressed me about these modules is how far they have come. The first Pro Series modules were rated at 6000MT/s and only offered around 500MT/s of overclocking headroom. While this doesn’t sound like much the real benefit was the default timings at 36-38-38-80.
In this review we will be looking at a slight revision to the Crucial Pro Series Overclocking Memory. These modules are rated at 6400MT/s making them perfect for the latest generation of Intel Core and Ryzen 7000 series processors.
Given that we have seen these modules before let’s dive right into the benchmarks.
