Raijintek Pallas Low Profile Heatsink Review
Author: Dennis GarciaConclusion
As we mentioned early in this review when shopping for a low profile cooler you have several things to consider including heat capacity, noise and overall size. The Raijintek Pallas is quite small with a total height of 68mm including the 13mm fan. This isn’t much taller than the Intel or AMD OEM coolers and should fit nicely into any slim chassis. Cooling is handled by a massive heatpipe array comprised of six 6mm heatpipes spread across a 150mm radiator. The cooler isn't designed for silent running but does a pretty good job.
Installation was extremely simple using the universal mounting kit. There is basically two parts. The first is establishing a base, on X79 you'll use the factory LGA 2011 heatsink mounts while on LGA 115x and AMD you must assemble the base using the included back plate and threaded risers. The system is basically a copy from what Thermaltake uses on most of their heatsinks with a few shortcuts to either keep costs down or in hopes nobody will notice.
Overall performance was better than we had expected. During our tests the heatsink performed quite well and offered very little fan noise. The performance extended into our overclocking tests which allowed us to push our 2600K up to 4.7Ghz and still had thermal headroom to grow. Truth is, we intended to stop at 4.5Ghz however, after seeing the C/W rating drop from 31 (default) down to 29 (@4.5Ghz) we figured we had better push things a little more.
What was most surprising is that this low profile cooler with a single fan is actually better than most of the low-end dual fan tower designs we have reviewed in the past. It might be interesting to see how this cooler does on a Core i7 3960X but that will have to wait for another time.
