The purpose of this episode is to take a candid look at some enthusiast level activities and the impact they have on our lives.  This discussion was started with a comment on the golf course about how Warren was selling off his paintball gear.  Knowing that he took the sport rather seriously having played with and coached one of the local college teams it was a real surprise that he would want out.

There was a famous scene in “Fight Club” where Tyler was telling Tyler about how the things you own end up owning you.  This rings true for many enthusiasts who get so involved in what they are doing that they end up taking it way to serious and are consumed with every little detail.  It shows they are excited and enjoy what they are doing but, as an outsider looking in the costs can be staggering.

Right now we have a falling PC market that is slowly being replaced by handheld mobile devices, connected appliances and “smart” technology.  While the need for a real PC may never go away the need to upgrade your PC on a regular basis is and this market trend is causing hardware makers to change their market strategy.  At first it was all about the “hardware enthusiast” and what they wanted, they got.  These days they are concentrating on e-sports because in the retail markets that matter that sells.

Funny thing is, esports doesn’t care about overclocking and that is slowly shifting the overclocking subculture from the curious entry level computer user to daddy rich pants with deep pockets.
