1 Trillion Interstellar Kredits Lost in EVE Online
I'm not really sure how newsworthy a story like this is but given the massive amounts of damage dealt in this online game is rather unprecedented. The worst part? In-game Kredits actually have real-world value and in this case One Trillion Kredits equals about $200k USD!
Over 8 Titans –– the largest ships in EVE Online –– have already been destroyed, giving rise to the 1 trillion Interstellar Kredits (an in-game currency) of damage.
The fight erupted when the N3 Alliance, an in-game faction, missed a payment on a station used as a staging ground for the "Halloween War," an EVE Online press release reads. The missed payment resulted in a drop in sovereignty across the local system, leaving it up for capture; the CFC and Russian Coalition then took the station. The current battle is a result of the former owners' counterattack to retake the station.
The moral of the story here is to always pay your bills on time else you might start an intergalatic war. What I find really interesting about this story is that the game, EVE Online, has been around for years and there is still people paying to play. Granted if you make enough money "in-game" you can use those credits to pay the monthly service fee but still, that is a crazy long time.
As you can imagine anyone who plays a game for YEARS is bound to have a ton of money and resouces to buy/build just about anything.
