  • Micron SSDs Qualified for Recommended Vendor List on NVIDIA GB200 NVL72

Micron 9550 PCIe Gen5 data center SSD delivers high-performance, energy-efficient storage for GB200 NVL72 systems

BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 23, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Micron Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MU), today announced that its 9550 PCIe Gen5 E1.S data center SSDs have been added to the NVIDIA recommended vendor list (RVL) for the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system and its derivatives.

The GB200 NVL72 uses the GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip to deliver rack-scale, energy-efficient AI infrastructure. The enablement of PCIe Gen5 storage in the system makes the Micron 9550 SSD an ideal fit for optimizing performance and power efficiency in AI workloads like large-scale training of AI models, real-time trillion-parameter language model inference and high-performance computing (HPC) tasks.

Micron 9550 delivers world-class AI workload performance and power efficiency:

Compared with other industry offerings, the 9550 SSD delivers up to 34% higher throughput for NVIDIA Magnum IO™ GPUDirect® (GDS) and up to 33% faster workload completion times in graph neural network (GNN) training with Big Accelerator Memory (BaM).1 The Micron 9550 SSD saves energy and sets new sustainability benchmarks by consuming 81% less SSD energy per 1TB transferred than other SSD offerings with NVIDIA Magnum IO GDS and up to 43% lower SSD power in GNN training with BaM.1

“Micron’s memory and storage products play a critical role in meeting the growing requirements of demanding AI workloads from the data center to the edge,” said Jeremy Werner, corporate vice president and general manager of Micron’s Storage Business Unit. “By integrating the Micron 9550 SSD on the GB200 NVL72, server companies can integrate a high-performance, energy-efficient Gen5 data center storage solution into their AI server systems.”

“Ultra-fast and energy-efficient NVMe storage is crucial to the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 rack-scale design,” said Keith Morris, vice president of Product Management at NVIDIA. “The Micron 9550 SSD can be integrated by our solution partners into their systems based on the GB200 NVL72 reference architecture to enable higher performance and efficiency.”

In addition to the Micron 9550 PRO PCIe Gen5 3.84TB, 7.68TB, and 15.36TB E1.S SSDs, the Micron 7450 PRO 3.84TB E1.S and 1.92TB M.2 SSDs have also been listed on the same NVIDIA RVL. Micron is working closely with server ODMs and OEMs to qualify the Micron 9550 and 7450 SSDs into their NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 solutions.

The NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip will also ship with Micron's LPDDR5X memory to provide a unique combination of high capacity, low power and enhanced RAS (reliability, availability and serviceability) capabilities for AI server infrastructure.

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 285K @ TechPowerUp

Seems the new Arrow Lake processor is not making people very happy.  It reminds me of the Penitum 4 launch and how the new architecture make the processor slower when compared to previous designs but opened the processor up to considerably more.  Sad part is, it took a couple years to get there and by then, the damage was done and Athlon XP and Athlon64 took over.

Finally! Intel's new Arrow Lake architecture is launched. The new CPUs are full of design changes, like removal of Hyper-Threading, new Lion Cove P-Cores, improved Thread Director and more. In our review we got surprising results that were both impressive and disappointing.

I'm pretty sure the YouTube channels are making things sound worse than they really are, you know just to get them golden views to put more money in their pockets.

  • Core Ultra 245K/265K/285K Processor and Z890 motherboard reviews @ Guru3D

Lets do this round up style.  We all know Google shits all over sites that do round ups and will refuse to index those pages due to "other" people attempting to game the SEO system for fun and profit.  So, here is a big "fuck you" to those who ruin it for the hard working people of the interwebs.

In the mean time check out this lazy round up from Guru3D.

Review: Core Ultra 9 285K processor
Intel today unleashes its Core Ultra 200 series processors, we start with two reviews, this one will entail the Core Ultra 9 285K. The processors offer eight performance cores and 16 energy-friendly cores. Especially all-core performance can be impressive, however listing the processor at 125W while it consumes 250W in both PL1 and PL2 states, is a bit of a thing we did not expect.

Review: Core Ultra 7 265K processor
This review focuses on the Core Ultra 7 265K, a mainstream model. The processor features eight high-performance cores and twelve energy-efficient cores, totalling 20 cores to deliver strong performance for many plentiful complicated workloads.

Review: Core Ultra 5 245K processor
This review focuses on the Core Ultra 5 245K, a mainstream model. The processor features six high-performance cores and eight energy-efficient cores, totalling 14 cores to deliver strong performance across various tasks.

Review: ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 HERO motherboard
The ROG Maximus Z890 Hero is built to support the latest PCI Express (PCIe) 5.0 standard, facilitating high-speed connectivity for next-generation graphics cards and storage devices. This ensures that the system can handle the demands of modern gaming and professional applications that require substantial bandwidth.

Review: MSI MEG Z890 ACE motherboard
This motherboard is equipped with four Dual-Channel DDR5 memory slots, allowing for the installation of up to 128GB of DDR5 RAM to enhance multitasking and application performance. For expansion, it offers two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, providing ample connectivity options for graphics cards, storage devices, and other peripherals.

With luck we will have an Arrow Lake motherboard review on Hardware Asylum before too long.  We just have to get past the reviews sponsored by Intel and hope the backlash doesn't kill the marketing budgets.
