    The Breakdown

There is a really simple customization you can do to any chassis with metal mesh.  After you have removed the plastic panel there will be a series of tabs holding the mesh in place.  Using a pair of pliers bend the tabs back vertically and that should allow you to remove the mesh panel.  Keep in mind that the metal used here is the cheapest money can buy and the holes tend to make it extremely weak so be careful.  Sadly I lost a few tabs during this mod but not enough to cause any real harm.

Here we have all the metal mesh parts ready for paint.

The final step in the teardown process was to remove the hard drive and external drive bays from the case.  I wanted to remove the plastic handle across the top but sadly I couldn’t remove the panels without breaking them so they got masked off instead.

Just about every modern chassis is held together with pop rivets.  Some of the older cases actually used spot welds in the corners which made the chassis considerably stronger and harder to break down.

To remove the parts you will need an 1/8th inch drill bit and will use that to drill the heads off.  Sometimes you will get lucky and clear the rivet hole and other times the rivet head will come off and start spinning.  If it does that simply stop drilling and use some pliers to remove the remainder of the rivet from the backside.
