Computex 2015 MSI Booth Visit
Author: Dennis GarciaIntroduction
MSI is one of the largest hardware vendors displaying products at Computex and while their primary focus this year is on the gaming line they did not disappoint.
The highlight of the booth is the MSI X99 Godlike. This is an X99 gaming motherboard that features many of the traditional things you have come to expect with a bunch of additional features added for good measure.
Godlike features three Killer Networks connections. Two Gigabit and a single dual band wireless. Audio has been further enhanced to support a full-sized audio jack for studio quality headphones and the complementary USB 3.1 connections.
The motherboard features a rather elaborate shielding system that is divided into three parts. Over the I/O connections you will find the cover with Godlike logo. Around the PCI Express slots is another shield that protects the audio controls but also doubles to give the onboard multicolor LEDs something to reflect off of. The last set of covers is over the PCI Express slots. I was told these are to reinforce the sockets however, I suspect they are more for EMI shielding.
Some of the other motherboards in display include the new Z170 Gaming for Skylake, X99 Gaming 9 and an OC board based on the Godlike motherboard spec.
The last feature that caught my eye was this M.2 to Mini SAS connector that will directly interface SAS based SSDs. These are the same types of drives found on the Intel 750.
